Home Farm Events

I recently visited Home Farm Events, a wedding venue near Daventry. This was a slightly different venue for me in the fact that there is no permanent building (besides the house where the owners live). It’s a very large marquee on farmland with extensive countryside views. Most wedding venues I’ve visited seem to either be barn conversions or stately homes.

Most couples who book Home Farm Events for their wedding probably opt for an outdoor ceremony that takes place in the field just outside the marquee. The ceremony can take place inside the marquee when the weather dictates. There is however the option to get married in a local church and just hold your reception at Home Farm Events. The marquee is large enough to cater to a group of up to 160 guests. I’d imagine the capacity would be even more for the evening party once the tables are moved away. Indeed they make a point of saying that there is no charge for evening guests. In my experience the typical wedding size seems to between 70-120 guests and Home Farm Events can certainly be booked for smaller groups.

Despite being off grid they do have enough power for your wedding needs, generated by 50kw solar panel system and I assume plenty of battery storage. It prides itself on being an environmentally friendly venue that also has a biomass boiler, powered with sustainable wood pellets. The food on the wedding menus is also locally sourced.

They are more limited in terms of overnight accommodation. There is a shepherds hut that includes an outdoor copper bathtub but the only other accommodation for guests is to camp in the fields. Of course your guests could book local hotels or self catering accommodation if they prefer.

Dogs are allowed at your wedding and I think this includes overnight camping. You do need to be mindful of the fact that this is a working farm and there could be cattle in adjoining fields. For the wedding I attended the dog Chip was only there for the ceremony and photographs afterwards and I then took him home. It was an incredibly hot day and this venue offers very little shade from the sun and heat so I think Chip preferred to be home in the evening. I also suffered from hayfever on the day, something you might want to consider when booking a summer wedding.

Your Ideal Wedding Venue?

So could Home Farm Events be your ideal wedding venue? It’s become clear to me that since starting K9 Weddings there is no ideal venue for all couples. When looking at venues it’s probably fair to say that guest capacity and cost are two primary factors that couples consider. Beyond this what appeals seems to vary a great deal. Some love the rustic charm of a barn conversion whereas others prefer a grand looking stately home. Personally in terms of the wedding photographs I think a stately home with winding staircase, grand front entrance. outdoor fountains or a pagoda is hard to beat. For other couples though they are purely looking for a venue where they are able to put their own stamp on the day in terms of decor and how the day is planned.

What gives one couple the wow factor when looking at a wedding venue will be completely different to another couple. There are venues for all tastes and those looking for a rural, outdoor setting may find that Home Farm Events is ideal for their needs.
