Coltsfoot Country Retreat

I recently visited an exclusive use dog friendly wedding venue in Hertfordshire called Coltsfoot Country Retreat. I was attending the wedding of Gwyn & James, looking after their dog Dennis the Dachshund. The couple booked my Platinum package where I would look after Dennis in the family home overnight after he had taken part in some of the wedding photos.

About Coltsfoot Country Retreat

Originally a working livery, the venue became a small hotel and restaurant in 2000. After hosting a few private weddings the owners started to focus more on weddings which I can understand as it has a lot to offer those looking for a wedding venue in this part of the country.

Considered a barn conversion venue, the main barn has high ceilings and large windows which let in lots of natural light. The venue is suitable for a capacity of up to 120 seated guests at the wedding breakfast which can be increased to 180 guests for the evening celebrations.

Most of the barn buildings are situated around a central courtyard area with some trees and a pond complete with what looked like koi carp. The image at the top of this article shows part of the courtyard to the left. The building in the distance is usually used for overnight accommodation and includes the room where the bride will normally get ready before walking down the path towards the main barn area where the indoor wedding ceremonies take place. For those who want an outdoor ceremony, chairs can be situated on the central courtyard area.

Coltsfoot Country Retreat Accommodation

In terms of overnight accommodation there are around 15 rooms that the couple and guests can use. These are either other buildings around the central courtyard or a luxury Shepherds Hut called The Don which is often used as the bridal suite. The Don can also be used as a space for the groom and his groomsmen to get ready and relax prior to the wedding ceremony.

The reviews for Coltsfoot Country Retreat are very encouraging with a Google score of 4.8 out of 5 from a total of 283 reviews at the time of writing. I was certainly impressed by what I saw, both in terms of the layout and vibe of the place but also by the staff I encountered on the day. An added bonus that might appeal to some couples is that you can have photographs taken with Llamas in the field opposite!
